UCLA CTSI to Host Session on OptumLabs Data Warehouse for UC Faculty & Staff

The UCLA Clinical & Translational Science Institute (CTSI) is hosting an in-person session open to UC-affiliated faculty and staff to learn about the OptumLabs/UC Health partnership and data assets. As part of the partnership, UC Health researchers have the opportunity to access the largest database of de-identified, linked clinical and administrative claims information in the country.

On November 16, 2018, Michael Levine, the UCLA Emeriti Association Award Selection Committee and Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel, shared a call for nominations with UCLA Deans, Department Chairs, Directors, Faculty, Emeriti, and Administrative Officers for for the 2018 – 2019 Dickson Emeritus Professorship Award and the Carole E. Goldberg Emeriti Service Award.

Apply for Pritzker Center Seed Grant Awards (up to $25,000)

The UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families announced an opportunity for one-year research Seed Grant Awards of up to $25,000. The main goal of this project is to offer UCLA faculty, program staff, or trainees the chance to undertake an interdisciplinary research project with UCLA colleagues from a different school, division, or specialization area and in partnership with a community organization or system aimed at strengthening children and families in Los Angeles.

On November 5, 2018, the Faculty Research Lectureship Committee shared a call for nominations with UCLA Faculty and Staff for outstanding research scholars for the lectureships of 2019-2020. The selection as Faculty Research Lecturer is the highest accolade that can be given by the UCLA Academic Senate to one of its own members.

Vice Chancellor for Research Wakimoto Shares Opportunity with Faculty to Meet with Visitors from DARPA & NSF

On October 23, 2018, Vice Chancellor for Research Roger M. Wakimoto shared an opportunity with UCLA Faculty to sign up to meet visitors from DARPA’s Defense Science Office and NSF’s Geosciences Directorate. On October 29, 2018 Mark Rosker (Deputy Director of the Defense Science Office at DARPA) will visit the UCLA campus, followed by a visit from Bill Easterling (Head of NSF Geosciences Directorate) on November 1-2, 2018.

On October 5, 2018, Michelle Popowitz (Assistant Vice Chancellor for Research & Executive Director for UCLA Grand Challenges) shared a BruinPost with the UCLA Research Community detailing information about existing resources and upcoming activities offered by the Research Enhancement Office (REO) within the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research (OVCR). The announcement provided information about funding opportunity resources for the campus community, the Research Enhancement Series: Grantmaking Webinars, and other campus research resources.

Associate Vice Chancellor for the Technology Development Group Shares an Update Regarding Royalty Policies

On July 19, 2018, Associate Vice Chancellor for the Technology Development Group Amir Naiberg announced that UCLA Policy 955 ("Net Royalty Distribution of Non-Patented Intellectual Property"), and UCLA Procedures 955.1 ("Release of Patent Rights to Inventors") and 955.2 ("Distribution of the University’s General Pool andResearch Share Portions of Net Royalties"), have been codified within UCLA’s Administrative Policies and Procedures (APP).

Assistant Vice Chancellor for Environment, Health & Safety Announces Update Regarding Chemical Inventory System (CIS)

On June 11, 2018, Assistant Vice Chancellor for Environment, Health & Safety, Colin Dimock, announced that the University of California Office of the President (UCOP) has elected to convert all campuses from the Chemical Inventory System (CIS) to UC Chemicals by the end of this current fiscal year. The system will become the campus standard as of the new fiscal year on July 1, 2018.

Vice Provost Timothy Brewer Solicits Applications for Interdisciplinary Events

On June 4, 2018, Vice Provost, Interdisciplinary & Cross Campus Affairs, announced via a BruinPost two funding opportunities, including an opportunity to bring outstanding scholars to Campus to promote interdisciplinary and cross campus education, research, and service at UCLA. Participate in a UCLA Workshop to Prepare for NSF MRSEC Solicitation

On May 23, 2018, the Research Enhancement Office at UCLA sent out an invitation through campus deans and the Research Enhancement Newsletter service to the first of several workshops to be convened over the coming year. This workshop is being held in anticipation of an upcoming solicitation from the National Science Foundation (NSF) for new Materials Research Science & Engineering Centers (MRSEC).
