UC Center for Laboratory Safety & Associate Vice Chancellor for Research Nancy Wayne Receive National Awards for Promoting Laboratory Safety

This month, the UC Center for Laboratory Safety received the 2017 CSHEMA Innovation Award of Honor from the Campus Safety, Health and Environmental Management Association (CSHEMA) for promoting laboratory safety at UCLA. The association also honored Associate Vice Chancellor for Research, Nancy Wayne, with a 2017 Campus Leader Who Cares Award of Honor.

UCLA's Commitment to Research Safety

On May 16, 2017, Chancellor Gene Block and Interim Vice Chancellor for Research Ann Karagozian provided a message about UCLA's commitment to research safety. UCLA Innovation Fund and Biomedical Competition Announcement

On May 1, 2017, Amir Naiberg, the Associate Vice Chancellor, and President & CEO of UCLA Technology Development Corporation, announced the creation of a new funding mechanism, the UCLA Innovation. The first focused effort is a call for biomedical proposals, with funding tracks for additional areas of research to be announced in the future.

Fourth Annual UCLA 'Code for the Mission' App Competition Announced

On April 28, 2017, UCLA's Technology Development Group and Office of Information Technology announced the Fourth Annual UCLA "Code for the Mission" App Competition. The “Code for the Mission” competition seeks to encourage UCLA Faculty, Students, and Staff to develop mobile apps that further the UCLA mission of translating research for social benefit. The initial competition registration deadline is June 16, 2017.

Interim Vice Chancellor for Research Karagozian Announces Leadership Change in Radiation Safety Committee

On February 24, 2017, Interim Vice Chancellor for Research, Ann Karagozian, announced changes in leadership in the Radiation Safety Committee. Professor Bill McBride, who served for many years as the Assistant Vice Chancellor for Radiation Safety has stepped down from the role. Professor Michael McNitt-Gray of the Department of Radiological Sciences has agreed to serve as the new Assistant Vice Chancellor for Radiation Safety, effective January 25, 2017. Please reference the BruinPost for more details.
