On September 23, 2020, Roger M. Wakimoto, UCLA vice chancellor for research and creative activities provided updates and answered questions about UCLA's ongoing efforts to resume on-campus research activities during COVID-19. Vice Chancellor Wakimoto was joined by Vice Chancellors Michael J. Beck, Michael S. Levine and members of his leadership team during the Q&A session to address selected audience questions.

Required Training on COVID-19 for Faculty, Staff and Student Employees

On June 19, Administrative Vice Chancellor Michael Beck and Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel Michael Levine announced that UCLA faculty, staff, student employees and volunteers will be required to complete an online course called “Returning to Work on Campus.” This requirement applies to all employees other than UCLA Health employees. Employees who are already working on campus must complete the training by July 31.

New Proposed Composite Benefit Rates for FY20-21

On June 16, 2020, Associate Vice Chancellor/Controller Allison Baird-James notified Deans, Directors, Department Chairs, and Administrative Officers that the Composite Benefit Rates (CBRs) for FY20-21 have been submitted for review to UCLA’s federal cognizant agency (the US Department of Health and Human Services, Cost Allocation Services). The CBR is a rate that goes into grant budgets to cover benefits of faculty and staff on grants.

UC MEXUS Announces Supplemental COVID-19 Funding Opportunity

On June 16, 2020, Alianza UCMX released the UC MEXUS (ucmexus.ucr.edu) supplemental funding opportunity for UC faculty undertaking research on COVID-19 who want to engage with Mexico. The total amount of funding requested must not exceed $5,000 per PI per six-month period. UC MEXUS plans to fund up to 20 supplements in FY 2021, depending on the availability of funds.

On June 4, 2020, Executive Vice Chancellor and Provost Emily A. Carter shared a BruinPost with information about the disestablishment of the Office of Interdisciplinary & Cross Campus Affairs (OICCA) effective June 30, 2020. The duties and areas of responsibility for the OICCA will be formally transitioned to the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and Creative Activities as of July 1, 2020.
