Five Steps to Prepare

  1. Check to see if your active grants are up for renewal or if you intend to apply for an NIH grant or contract on or after January 25, 2023. Writing a DMSP for these grants should be a high priority.
  2. Familiarize yourself with the policy using this website to determine if it affects your proposals.
  3. Designate one or more members of your lab to handle research data management.
  4. Train yourself and your staff in data management planning and practices (see “Resources”).
  5. Determine if you need to budget for costs relating to data sharing and curation in order to comply with the policy. (see “Budgeting for DMS”).
