Complying with NIH Data Management and Sharing Requirements

Date last modified: August 8, 2023

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced a new Data Management and Sharing (DMS) Policy that applies to proposals submitted on or after January 25, 2023. This policy aligns with guidance from the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy memo “Ensuring Free, Immediate, and Equitable Access to Federally Funded Research.”

The NIH DMS Policy covers data-generating research funded in whole or in part by the NIH. As UCLA receives over 600 million dollars in NIH funding annually, we expect this to impact a large number of UCLA researchers and their collaborators.

This website includes critical information regarding the policy, links to official NIH documentation, FAQs, and UCLA-produced webinars related to this new policy.

The NIH continues to release new supplemental information to support areas of compliance and privacy. Please make sure to check back regularly.
