FAQs

A state-of-the-art research and innovation hub where UCLA faculty, staff, students, and postdoctoral scholars conduct transformative, multidisciplinary, collaborative research and creative activities alongside industry and government partners.

  • UCLA Research Park is located approximately two miles south of the UCLA Westwood campus at the former Westside Pavilion shopping center. This mall was in the process of being transformed by Google into what was planned as a high-tech office headquarters for the company - but following the Covid-19 pandemic was sold to UCLA to convert the mall into a research and innovation space.
  • UCLA Research Park East is located at 10800 West Pico Boulevard. UCLA Research Park West is located at 10850 West Pico Boulevard. Link to map.

UCLA acquired the property in late 2023 with the aid of a $200 million investment from the State of California. A group of six founding donors are also generously supporting development of the California Institute for Immunology and Immunotherapy (CIII).

A Master Plan for the shell and core portion of Research Park East was completed in 2024. Next steps include an environmental study of the project pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA) followed by initial UC Regental approval in 2026. Planning and design efforts for the shell and core portion of Research Park East, as well as tenant improvements, will continue through 2026 followed by construction and commissioning, with initial occupancy in 2028. Design, construction, and occupancy of the remainder of Research Park East as well as Research Park West will be phased, with full occupancy anticipated in 2035.

As with other UCLA properties across the L.A. region, we will ensure a safe and secure environment. Potential construction impacts may include traffic, parking, noise, air quality, security, etc. All impacts will be reviewed as part of the  CEQA process, and mitigation measures will be implemented as needed to reduce such impacts. Community members and the public will have the opportunity to review these findings and provide comments upon release of the CEQA document.

Researchers will lead scientific and technology projects that will benefit California, the United States, and the world. Initially, immunology, immunotherapy, and quantum science and technology research will be conducted in the east building.
