Melissa Malone is an Associate Director of Events and Program Reviews within the Office of Research and Creative Activities (ORCA). Melissa brings to the table a wealth of global experience providing companies with events and communications strategic planning and execution. Melissa directs the department’s events effort with faculty-oriented events including town halls, awards receptions, campus visits with high-level funding agency and government constituent groups, in addition to leading program reviews and related reporting for the university’s 18 organized research units. Prior to UCLA, Melissa worked for two major sport event organizing committees; the Vancouver 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, and the Gold Coast 2018 XXI Commonwealth Games in her home country of Australia. Melissa’s career has taken her to Europe and Canada, where she has worked for companies including the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), TELUS telecommunications company (in strategic customer communications), PwC accounting company (in communications and project management) and Toronto Metropolitan (formerly Ryerson) University, where she led the events and communications department of its film and television school.
