Conflict of Commitment and Outside Activities of Faculty Members

Vice Chancellor for Academic Personnel Michael S. Levine and Vice Chancellor for Research & Creative Activities Roger Wakimoto sent reminders to all eligible faculty members to use the UC Outside Activity Tracking System (OATS) to request prior approval and report outside professional activities performed. A list of qualified faculty members who are subject to Academic Personnel Manual (APM) 025 and Academic Personnel Manual (APM) 671 are included in the announcements. A list of activities that would likely constitute as a conflict of commitment were also added.

As per UCLA policy, all proposals for research support should be submitted through UCLA. Any exceptions requested to submit research proposals through an outside entity must be submitted to Vice Chancellor Roger Wakimoto. After receiving approval from Vice Chancellor Wakimoto, faculty will also need prior approval from Vice Chancellor Michael Levine before engaging in any outside professional activity.

Eligible faculty are required to report their outside activities in UC OATS and certify their activities for fiscal year 2022-23 (July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2023) by September 30, 2023.

Please see the BruinPost regarding APM 025 and BruinPost regarding APM 671 for more information. Visit the UC OATS website for tutorials and resources. Questions can be sent to OVCAP@conet.ucla.edu.
