Announcement from VC Economou & AVC Rauw to UCLA Faculty Regarding GSK Solicitation

Maintained on website for historical purposes - this issue has been resolved.

Vice Chancellor James S. Economou and Associate Vice Chancellor Brendan Rauw sent out a BruinPost to UCLA faculty regarding a solicitation from GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) to participate in the Discovery Fast Track Competition.  Since the Terms and Conditions of the competition require that applicants must not participate if to do so would be contrary to the policies of the applicant’s employer or institution, the purpose of this campus broadcast was to advise all faculty that the GSK contest Terms and Conditions are in conflict with UC policy because faculty have prior and ongoing obligations under the patent policy to disclose all discoveries to the University and have assigned patent rights to the University.  Faculty were reminded to contact OIP-ISR anytime any company or entity proposes to solicit participation in research or a sponsored project.

The issue with the Discovery Fast Track Competition was resolved in July.
