Enhanced Support for North Campus

A priority for Vice Chancellor Wakimoto is enhancing support for research and creative activities in north campus disciplines. To facilitate greater understanding about research needs of north campus faculty members, Vice Chancellor Wakimoto appointed Professor Todd Presner as an Advisor. As Advisor, Professor Presner ensures that Vice Chancellor Wakimoto understands more about north campus research interests and needs, and serves a liaison between the units in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Research and north campus faculty.  The timing of this appointment was fortuitous as Humanities Division Dean David Schaberg also recently appointed Professor Presner as Associate Dean of Digital Innovation.  While the Advisor role is new and will evolve during his tenure, topics that are expected to be included in the portfolio include fostering collaborative, transdisciplinary research and creative activities, increasing the capacity of such activities, advising on the development of computational research infrastructure/experimental laboratory spaces for north campus disciplines, and becoming more involved in advocacy for national funding for the Humanities and Arts (NEH, NEA) through Federal Relations.  See the campus-wide announcement of Professor Presner's appointment at: https://research.ucla.edu/news/appointment-professor-todd-presner-advisor-vice-chancellor-research.

Initiation Date

While planning for the initiative began in fiscal year 2018, it took a more active role in fiscal year 2019 with the appointment of Todd Presner as an Advisor to the Vice Chancellor for Research.
