Dean Buonomano

Professor of Neurobiology

Dean Buonomano is a UCLA professor of Neurobiology and Psychology whose work spans computational and experimental neuroscience. Raised in Brazil, he completed his undergraduate degree at the State University of Campinas (UNICAMP). A leading authority on how the brain tells time, his research explores how neural circuits perform time-dependent computations, as well as neural dynamics and learning in ex vivo cortical circuits. Dr. Buonomano is also the author of two acclaimed books: Your Brain is a Time Machine: The Neuroscience and Physics of Time (Norton, 2017) and Brain Bugs: How the Brain’s Flaws Shape Our Lives (Norton, 2011).
