Pritzker Center Seed Grants

The information below is from the 2018-2019 request for proposals. Please see the opportunity website for updated information.

The UCLA Pritzker Center for Strengthening Children and Families has created an opportunity for one-year research Seed Grant Awards of up to $25,000. For UCLA faculty, program staff, or trainees, the UCLA Pritzker Seed Grants are designed to sow opportunities for interdisciplinary research projects. Faculty must be developing studies with UCLA colleagues from a different school, division, or specialization area AND must be working in partnership with a community organization or system aimed at strengthening children and families in Los Angeles. However, applications will be accepted from UCLA faculty, staff, and trainees who are working on an interdisciplinary research or services project, an independent project that could benefit the Los Angeles community, or who are working in partnership with a community agency or system.

The main goal of this project is to offer UCLA faculty, program staff, or trainees the chance to undertake an interdisciplinary research project with UCLA colleagues from a different school, division, or specialization area and in partnership with a community organization or system aimed at strengthening children and families in Los Angeles. The UCLA Pritzker Center seed grant program places a priority on multidisciplinary efforts and explorations that are partnered with the Los Angeles community. Examples may include: work that adds research or program evaluation analysis to best improve or impact a child and family serving agency, organization, or system, or developing new research or program partnerships across UCLA schools addressing innovation and improvement for children and families related to child welfare, education, juvenile justice, child and family policy, mental health, or wellbeing.

Up to four proposals will be selected based on the following criteria:

  • The extent to which the project includes multiple disciplines, schools, departments, or specializations
  • The extent to which the proposal is partnered with a child and family-serving community organization, agency, or system
  • The intellectual merit and innovation of the proposed project
  • The project’s organization and judicious use of funds
