FAQs

Prosper is an interdisciplinary, campus-wide “think-and-do” institute that brings together research, teaching, capacity building, and dialogue to address pressing glocal challenges in human, social, and economic development.

Prosper pursues research and creative activity that translates into innovative, evidence-based solutions with both global and local (“glocal”) relevance, addressing challenges facing Angelenos, Californians, and communities around the world.

Prosper reports to the Vice Chancellor for Research, Innovation & Creative Activities. A Faculty Advisory Committee (FAC), composed of UCLA faculty, provides internal governance and advises on research focus, budget, and personnel. An External Advisory Group (EAG) of outside scholars and leaders advises on strategic direction and international partnerships.

Prosper follows a “thin layer, wide reach” model: a senior faculty director, a managing director overseeing daily operations, a small core professional staff, and Faculty Program Directors who lead individual initiatives as part of their existing faculty appointments.

Prosper has secured philanthropic funding to support its launch. Prosper’s budget will grow in step with the philanthropic and grant funding it raises.

Prosper is a collaborative platform that supports and amplifies existing UCLA schools, departments, centers, institutes, and Organized Research Units.

Professor Felicia Marie Knaul, MA, PhD, serves as Prosper’s inaugural director.
